Student Counseling Center Q & A

What is counseling?
Counseling offers an opportunity to consider issues that concern you. It aims to help you to explore and understand difficulties you may be having, and help you find better ways of managing.

Why might I need counseling?
Students use the Counseling Service for a range of reasons. Some of the issues which are brought to counseling are
•anxiety and depression
•relationship or family problems
•problems affecting your study
Generally, people who feel that 'things are not right and could be better' can benefit from counseling.

How long does it take?
Counseling sessions generally take 45-60 minutes.

How to make an appointment?
If this is your first time using our service, please drop in to make an appointment. You will need to attend an intake interview of about 15 minutes, during which you can identify and briefly discuss the main problems you are experiencing. The counselor will inform you about the possible options available to you.

What if you can’t make it to your appointment?
If you can't make it to your appointment, you can arrange a different time. If you're running late, let us know on (02)2905 3003.
